Annually, 198 tonnes (product weight) of New Zealand High Quality Beef can be exported to the United Kingdom at a 20% ad valorem duty.

Imports within the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) are referred to as “in-quota” and are administered by the New Zealand Meat Board.

Product imported outside the quota is subject to an out-of-quota tariff rate of 12.0% + 118.0 - 254.0 GBP per 100kg/net. This is administered by the UK and collected at point of entry.

The Quota Year runs from 1 July to 30 June. Prior to the year’s start, the Board makes quota allocations to Qualifying Companies. This is done in accordance with the Quota Allowance Allocation System, which can be found on page six of the UK High Quality Beef Tariff Rate Quota Manual. New Entrants can acquire quota on a first come first served, certificate by certificate basis (refer pages seven and eight of the EU High Quality Beef Tariff Rate Quota Manual).
